About This Basket

  • Handcrafted Quality: Rattan reed handwoven over a solid wood bottom, with one bent wood handle arched over the middle and wrapped in a spiral of reed, by an Old Order Amish family on the Iowa-Missouri border, and signed by the weaver who made it.
  • The Child's Size: 12 1/2 inches across, 6 1/4 inches deep and 14 inches to the top of the handle: a child's Easter basket for years, from the first egg hunt they can carry it through grade school.
  • The Handle Stays Up: The handle is fixed in place, and the 14 inches are measured to the top of it. The woven basket itself is 6 1/4 inches deep.
  • Measures: 12 1/2" diameter x 14" tall, to the top of the handle. Contents not included.
  • Three Trim Colors: Choose Plain, Wine & Blue, or Wine & Green. The color is woven in as dyed reed, not painted on, and on the plain finish the stain takes to each piece of wood in its own way.
  • Optional Extras: Two liners are sewn for this basket and sold right on this page: a plain liner in cream, wine, blue or green, and a pastel liner in pink, purple, yellow or emerald, each tied in with two bonnet ties. An engraved solid brass plate and protective feet are optional too. The basket ships empty, with no liner, grass or eggs.
  • American Heritage: Handwoven in the USA and signed by the Amish weaver who made it. Backed by our lifetime guarantee, with free shipping and no-questions returns on every order.

This is the traditional Easter basket: round, with the handle arched over the middle and room for a child's whole Easter. Mary bought it for a first Easter and wrote, "It is the perfect Easter Basket size."

Until 2021 this basket was sold as the Large Round Easter Basket. The size names moved down a step that year and the baskets kept their measurements, so a large round bought before then is this basket. The Medium Oval Easter Basket is the same depth at 14 x 10 1/2; the Small Round is 10 1/2 inches across and today's Large Round 14 1/2. The sizes are the outside of the rim.

With a name on the front it becomes the personalized Easter basket a child keeps; every size is shown with the plate on the personalized Easter baskets page. The engraved brass plate takes a name, a date or a short line, up to 22 characters on each of two lines, and is screwed to the front band with two small brass screws before the basket ships. A plate can also be ordered on its own later, screws included, for a basket you already have. Leslue wrote, "The cotton liners make it special." After Easter, Darci's "will become a toy basket for him!" and Annmarie uses hers "to display a collection of decorated Easter eggs on my dining room table."

An Old Order Amish family weaves it by hand on the Iowa-Missouri border, in the same community as the rest of our Easter baskets, and the weaver signs the bottom before it leaves the farm. Standard shipping is free, and rush delivery is offered at checkout when the Easter week is close. Sizes can sell out in the weeks before Easter; the notify-me button on this page emails you when the next one is ready in the Shipping Barn. It ships gift-ready, with no prices in the box, a free gift note at checkout, and a short letter about the family who wove it. Like every basket we sell, it carries our lifetime guarantee, and returns are no questions asked.

Amish craftsman nailing the solid wood bottom onto a handwoven basket

Built to Last

Each basket’s solid wood bottom is the foundation of its lasting durability.

To guarantee strength that will not warp, even after many years, every bottom is cut from furniture-grade, ½-inch layered birch. It’s then carefully secured with solid brass nails, creating a base that’s as reliable as it is beautiful.

Quality Materials

Each basket is built with hardwood poplar posts, providing strong vertical stability.

Then handwoven from wickering reed, a natural material chosen for its flexibility and strength. This combination not only gives each basket its unique look and feel, but also ensures lasting durability that can stand up to everyday use.

Signed by the Crafter

Every basket is handmade by Amish families, carrying forward generations of tradition.

To honor that craftsmanship, each piece is personally signed by its creator and arrives with a heartfelt letter, connecting you directly to the family. This personal touch makes every basket more than just a product — it’s a piece of heritage.
